ERS International has entered a service partnership with DataExpert, a Hong Kong–based provider of IT asset disposition, data destruction, digital forensics and data recovery services with locations across Asia-Pacific. Effective September 23, 2026, each company can offer its customers coverage in the other's service zones, delivered through its service partner network, so a client with sites on three continents can work with one accountable partner from secure collection to certified disposition.

One standard for data sanitization and destruction, everywhere

Data security is where the two companies overlap most, and the partnership is built on a shared standard. Whether an engagement is performed by ERS in Toronto or by DataExpert in Singapore, data-bearing assets are handled the same way: software erasure to NIST SP 800-88, degaussing, and on-site or off-site shredding of hard drives, SSDs, tapes and mobile devices, with witnessed destruction available on request. Every job runs under a documented chain of custody from collection to final disposition, in access-controlled facilities with sealed, tracked transport and screened personnel, and closes with certificates of data sanitization or destruction and serialized inventories. For clients, that means one set of expectations, one reporting format and one custody record regardless of geography.

“We're excited to see this partnership through. DataExpert brings a depth of digital forensics and data recovery expertise that complements everything ERS already does in data security and ITAD, and together we can offer our customers a more complete answer to the question of what happens to their data and their hardware. It's a meaningful step forward for ERS, and I'm looking forward to the opportunities it opens up for both companies and the clients we serve.”
— Joseph Cimorelli, Chief Operating Officer, ERS International

New for ERS clients: digital forensics and data recovery

DataExpert operates what it describes as the first and only commercially run digital forensics laboratory in Hong Kong, opened in 2010, and holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification from BSI. Through the partnership, ERS clients can now be referred to DataExpert for:

  • Digital forensics and e-discovery: computer and mobile acquisition, analysis, reporting and evidence handling, with expert support for legal, corporate and internal investigations.
  • Data recovery: logical and physical recovery, including cleanroom and chip-off work, from RAID, NAS and SAN systems and mobile devices.
  • Forensic lab and equipment solutions: forensic lab planning and build-out, and media shredder and degausser equipment.

These services sit ahead of destruction in the asset lifecycle. A drive that fails, a device under legal hold or a suspected breach can be preserved, examined or recovered first, and then move into ERS's certified sanitization or destruction without a change of custody.

Expanding ITAD coverage for both partners

Both companies deliver the full ITAD lifecycle: serialized inventory, data sanitization, testing and grading, refurbishment and remarketing, electronics recycling and material recovery, product destruction and secure logistics. What changes is where each can offer it.

  • For ERS clients, the partnership adds Asia-Pacific coverage through DataExpert's locations in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Japan, Taiwan and Australia.
  • For DataExpert clients, it adds ERS coverage across Canada, the United States, the Middle East, Europe and South America, including R2v3-certified processing and ERS-only programs such as OEM returns and reverse logistics, battery recycling, and E-Carbon sustainability reporting.

How it works

Clients continue to deal with the company they already work with. That company scopes the engagement, quotes it and manages it; the partner performs the work in its region to the agreed standards and returns the certificates and reports through the same channel. Nothing about a client's contract, point of contact or reporting changes.
